Income Tax Exemption

Income Tax exemption is a right guaranteed to retirees or pensioners who suffer from serious illnesses, according to Article 6, item XIV, of Law 7,713/88. This benefit covers those whose income results from an accident at work or who have serious illnesses, even if diagnosed after retirement.

Who is eligible? Retirees or pensioners who are diagnosed with any of the diseases listed in Article 6, item XIV, of Law 7,713/88:

- AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome)

- Severe Heart Disease

- Blindness (including monocular)

- Radiation Contamination

- Paget's Disease in advanced stages (Osteitis Deformans)

-Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis

- Ankylosing Spondyloarthrosis

- Cystic Fibrosis (Mucoviscidosis)

- Leprosy

- Severe Nephropathy

- Severe Hepatopathy

- Malignant Neoplasm

-Irreversible and Disabling Paralysis

- Active Tuberculosis ​​

 - Alzheimer's and Severe Mental Illness. (Although Alzheimer's and severe mental illness are not explicitly mentioned in the law, court decisions have recognized the right to income tax exemption, as these are they have severe impact on the lives of those affected.​)
